Singapore Student Visa: Process, Documents and Funds
Student visa
Singapore does not use a conventional embassy-issued student visa. Instead, the student (usually via their university acting as the local registering party) applies online through ICA's SOLAR (Student's Pass Online Application & Registration) system for a Student's Pass. Approval first produces an In-Principle Approval (IPA) letter, which is the document used to travel to Singapore; the physical/digital Student's Pass itself is only issued after the student completes formalities (including biometrics and a medical report) in Singapore.

IPA validity

ICA's own STP application/collection pages (checked 2026-07-04) do not state a specific validity period in the text we could confirm; NTU's official Student's Pass process document, dated 8 June 2026, explicitly citing ICA/SOLAR steps, states verbatim 'IPA has a validity period of 4 months from the date of issue.' Some third-party/aggregator sources circulate a 2-month figure instead. Treat the 4-month figure as the best-supported one found (direct, dated, university-published primary process document), but the underlying ICA source does not itself publish a number, so always have students re-confirm against the specific expiry printed on their own IPA letter.

Submit the eForm16 on SOLAR with photo and passport bio-page
MandatoryLog in at eservices.ica.gov.sg/solar, complete the eForm16 personally (not via an agent, no corrections are allowed after submission), and upload a recent colour passport photo and a clear scan of the passport bio-page (passport must have at least 6 months' validity from the date of arrival in Singapore). There is no Indian-mission appointment, no VFS centre, and no separate 'visa' stamped in the passport in the German/US/UK sense. The entire process is digital via SOLAR, run by the destination country's immigration authority directly (with the university acting as the local registering party), a genuinely different model that counsellors used to Western visas must explain carefully to families.
Aggregator sites commonly state the IPA is valid for 2 months; the official NTU-published 2026 process guide (dated 8 June 2026, mirroring ICA/SOLAR steps) states verbatim '4 months from the date of issue.' ICA's own STP pages do not themselves publish a number we could confirm. The 4-month figure is the better-supported one, but given the discrepancy, always tell students to check the exact expiry printed on their own IPA letter rather than relying on either general figure, and to complete formalities well before it lapses.
