Singapore University Admissions: Requirements and Intakes
Universities & admissions
Singapore's public ('autonomous') universities, led by NUS, NTU, and SMU, are highly selective and admit largely on raw academic merit plus, for many Indian applicants, a standardised test. There is no single national portal; each university runs its own admissions office and, unlike Germany, no third-party credential-verification body sits between the student and the university.

NUS explicitly does NOT require JEE Main/Advanced. Accepted standardized tests: AP, ACT (with Writing), or SAT. Students who have not yet completed Class 12 exams are ineligible for Dentistry, Law, Medicine, Nursing at the time of application; Architecture/Industrial Design/Landscape Architecture may need an additional aptitude test.

NUS's international-qualifications window ran 3 Dec 2025 to 23 Feb 2026 for AY2026/27; the next cycle (AY2027/28) opens around December 2026. Admission outcomes for this category are released online by July, a separate, later timeline than NUS's fixed May/June acceptance windows, which apply only to Singapore-qualification (A-Level/Poly/IB/NUS High) applicants. NTU and SMU run broadly parallel but separately-published timelines, always confirm per university and per year.

MandatoryUniversities publish a specific admissions pathway for 'Indian Standard 12' / CBSE-ISC-State Board applicants, separate from the IB/A-Level tracks, read that page for each shortlisted university rather than assuming a generic 'good grades' rule. Note which programmes require a standardized test (SAT/ACT/AP) and which, if any, run a separate aptitude test (e.g. architecture, some design programmes).
Apply directly on each university's own portal
MandatoryUnlike Germany's uni-assist, Singapore has no shared clearing house, apply on NUS's, NTU's, or SMU's own admissions portal, each with its own account, document set, and (usually) application fee. Applications typically open in December for the following August intake.

ConditionalAdmission offers from NUS/NTU/SMU for international students usually come bundled with the option to take the MOE Tuition Grant. The student must actively indicate acceptance or decline of TG within the university's stated deadline (NTU's AY2026/27 acceptance-decision deadline was 17 July 2026), this is a financial/legal decision, not a formality, so counsel the family on the bond (see the Finances and Working & staying on sections) before the deadline. Accepting TG is not the final step: NTU's AY2026/27 process then requires online TG registration (14 to 18 September 2026) followed by online signing of the Tuition Grant Agreement with sureties on the TG&S Portal (19 September, 18 October 2026), late completion after 18 October 2026 is not accepted, so build both follow-on windows into the family's calendar, not just the initial acceptance deadline.
You get: A signed decision (with TG + bond, or without TG at full fees) attached to the admission record.
Singapore has no equivalent of Germany's APS. Degree/school-leaving certificate recognition is assessed directly by the admitting university against its own entry criteria, there is no separate national verification step or fee to budget for.
Counsellors coming from a JEE/NEET-heavy advising background should note NUS explicitly states JEE Main/Advanced results are not required or used, Indian Standard 12 applicants are assessed on board exam results plus SAT/ACT/AP. Don't let a family over-invest in JEE prep assuming it helps a Singapore application.
