Language Tests for Netherlands: IELTS, TOEFL and Alternatives
Language & tests
Almost all programmes Indian students target are English-taught, so an English proficiency test is the main gate. A Dutch-taught programme instead needs a Dutch-language certificate. Standardised admissions tests (GMAT/GRE) are programme-specific, not a national rule.
English-taught programmes

This programme-set band is the figure that actually earns an offer, the Netherlands has no separate lower visa/immigration English floor, since the university (as IND-recognised sponsor) files the residence permit itself. Some programmes, especially technical/engineering Master's and competitive tracks, ask for 6.5 to 7.0 or higher. Set per programme, not a national rule, always confirm on the specific programme page.
Dutch-taught programmes

Needed for Dutch-medium Bachelors; rare for Indian applicants but relevant if the pending WIB bill shifts more bachelor's content toward Dutch-medium teaching in future intakes.

Check the individual programme, business/economics Masters are the most likely to ask.
There is no single nationwide English-test threshold, each university and programme sets its own minimum and accepted test list. Book IELTS/TOEFL early relative to numerus fixus's tighter (15 January) deadline if applying to a limited-place programme.
