Document checklist

Singapore student visa documents

10 documents an Indian student needs for a Singapore student visa, 10 of them required of every applicant. Each one says what it is, how to actually get it (where to book, the fee, the lead time), and links to the official page behind it. Where the authority states the requirement in its own words we quote that sentence, so you can confirm it yourself rather than taking our word or an agent’s.

Identity

  • Passport Biodata Page

    Required

Original valid passport biodata page with minimum 6 months validity. Used for SOLAR application submission and travel document verification.

    How to get it

Scan the biodata page of your current passport and upload it in the e-Service. Add your birth certificate too where it applies to you. No fee for this item beyond the S$45 application charge, and nothing to book, but a passport renewal in India takes weeks, so check your expiry before you start rather than after.

  • ICA Compliant Passport Photo

    Required

Recent passport-sized digital colour photograph taken within the last 3 months against a plain white background following ICA photo guidelines.

    How to get it

A recent passport-sized digital colour photograph taken within the last three months, uploaded in the e-Service. Any studio in India that does passport photos can supply a digital file; ICA publishes photo guidelines to check it against before you upload.

“Your recent, passport-sized, digital, colour photograph taken within the last three months.”

Academic

  • Registration Acknowledgement Letter from Institution

    Required

Official SOLAR Registration Acknowledgement Letter issued by an approved Singapore Institute of Higher Learning (IHL) confirming full-time matriculated admission.

    How to get it

Your Singapore institution issues this after you accept the offer; you cannot start the application without it, since the e-Service asks for it up front. Chase the admissions office if it has not arrived, because the application window is only the two to three months before your course starts.

Financial

  • Student's Pass Processing Fee (SGD 45)

    Required

Non-refundable processing fee of SGD 45 required by ICA for each Student's Pass application submitted via SOLAR.

    How to get it

S$45, non-refundable whatever the outcome. Pay online at submission by Visa or MasterCard credit or debit card, American Express, PayNow, or Internet Direct Debit from a DBS/POSB, OCBC, UOB or Standard Chartered account in Singapore. This is separate from, and additional to, the S$60 issuance fee charged later once you are in Singapore.

    “A non-refundable S$45 processing fee is payable.”

  • Student's Pass Issuance Fee (SGD 60 + SGD 30 Visa Fee)

    Required

Mandatory pass issuance fee of SGD 60 plus SGD 30 for Multiple Journey Visa payable during completion of formalities.

    How to get it

S$60 to issue the Student's Pass, plus S$30 for a Multiple Journey Visa where one applies. Paid online in the ICA e-Service by Internet Banking, American Express, or a Visa or MasterCard credit or debit card, at the completion-of-formalities stage after you have arrived in Singapore. It is charged on top of the S$45 you already paid to apply, so budget for both.

“You must be in Singapore on a valid immigration pass for the completion of formalities for the Student’s Pass to be issued.”

Visa

  • SOLAR Registration & eForm 16 Online Application

    Required

Electronic Student's Pass application form eForm 16 submitted through ICA's Student's Pass On-Line Application & Registration (SOLAR) system after registration by the admitting Singapore institution.

    How to get it

Apply through the ICA e-Service at least two months and not more than three months before the course starts. You do not need to be in Singapore while it is processed, and applying before you travel matters because you cannot extend a short stay while an application is underway. ICA states processing within one week, or within two weeks where a visa is also required, counted from the day after submission. Some take longer; check status in the e-Service.

“You will need to apply online using the e-Service at least two months and not more than three months before course begins.”

  • In-Principle Approval (IPA) Letter & Entry Visa

    Required

Official In-Principle Approval (IPA) letter issued by ICA upon approval of Student's Pass. Incorporates single/multiple entry visa for visa-required nationals like Indian passport holders.

    How to get it

Download the IPA from the ICA e-Service once the application is approved, which is within the one to two week processing window, and carry a printed copy. There is no separate fee: ICA charges S$45 at application and S$60 at issuance, and nothing for the IPA itself. If you need a visa to enter Singapore it is included in the IPA automatically, so there is no separate visa application. You show the IPA at the immigration checkpoint and are given a Visit Pass on arrival. The Student's Pass is only issued if you meet every requirement listed in that letter.

“If your application is successful, ICA will issue you an In-Principle Approval (IPA) letter.”

  • Digital Student's Pass (FileSG)

    Required

Official digital Student's Pass issued by ICA (replacing physical pass card since Feb 27, 2023). Accessible electronically via FileSG portal or Singpass app.

    How to get it

Issued digitally rather than as a card collected in person, once formalities are complete. You retrieve it through FileSG or the Singpass app, so make sure the email address in your application is one you still read after you land. No separate fee: it is covered by the S$60 issuance fee.

“From 27 February 2023, ICA will issue the Student's Pass in digital form only.”

Health

  • ICA Medical Examination Report (TB & HIV Screening)

    Required

Medical Examination Report on prescribed ICA form including mandatory Chest X-ray for Tuberculosis and HIV blood test screening for passes of 6 months or longer.

    How to get it

Where it applies to you, the report must be submitted before the Student's Pass can be issued, alongside a downloaded and acknowledged copy of the Terms and Conditions form. ICA publishes a guide to the fields on the form. Have it done before you fly if you can: it is a prerequisite for the appointment, not something you can resolve at the counter.

“Before your Student’s Pass can be issued, you will need to download and acknowledge a copy of the Student’s Pass Terms and Conditions form and submit Medical Examination Report (if applicable).”

Other

  • Offsite Enrolment / ICA Centre Biometric Enrolment

    Required

Completion of formalities including fingerprint and facial biometrics capture at ICA Services Centre (Crawford Street) or scheduled offsite campus enrolment session.

    How to get it

Two routes, and no separate fee for either. Many institutions run an offsite enrolment session and will tell you the date, time and venue; if yours has scheduled you for one, report there once you arrive in Singapore. If it has not, book your own appointment through the ICA e-Service, because formalities are strictly by appointment, and go to ICA Services Centre, 2 Crawford Street, Level 3, Singapore 207218. Take a queue ticket from the Self-Service Ticketing Kiosk on arrival and bring every document listed in your IPA letter. Do this soon after you land: the pass is not issued until formalities are done.

“Your school may arrange a time for you to complete formalities and enroll biometrics at an offsite location.”
